Celebration of Hatfield Dam’s 100 years set for Aug. 11th
The Lake Arbutus Association is announcing a celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the completion of the dam that forms Lake Arbutus in Hatfield. The dam is being restored, resulting in the lake being lowered the last two years. The dam will be rededicated hopefully for another 100 years of recreation and power generation.
The Lake Association is calling the celebration “Another Dam Holiday.” It will be held Aug. 11, 2007. Competition events will start in the morning, the main festival grounds will be open from noon to 11 p.m. The event location will be on the southwest side of the lake next to the dam.
Buttons will be required for all events and to enter the festival grounds. Buttons can be purchased for $2 at the gate and at select businesses throughout the Hatfield area.
Events will include a water volleyball tournament plus canoe and kayak races both for amateurs (trophies) and “pros” (cash prizes). Live entertainment by Jay and the Free Buffet Band will take place from 7 p.m. to around 11 p.m., on the main festival grounds on the shore of Lake Arbutus. Throughout the day, there will be information and exhibits on some of the latest products available from various organizations including, ATVs, campers and marine products. Plans also include tours of the computer-controlled powerhouse and its huge electricity generators.
Mark your calendar now to enjoy a gala event on the banks of Lake Arbutus with friends and family.
