Walter Edwin Tolk, 87, an original Yankee Doodle Dandy was born on July 4, 1922, in a log cabin on the family farm in Athens.


Walter distinguished himself by being the first of five children to graduate from high school. As a volunteer in the USAF he was among the first troops to occupy Japan in World War II.

 

Walter earned a degree in electrical engineering after attending Carlton College and graduation from the University of Wisconsin. Eventually Walter became the Western Regional Manager for the Man-Roland Company. Among his many accomplishments are founding member of the La Mirada Prince of Peace Lutheran Church; Founding member of the La Mirada Jaycees and founding member of the La Mirada Habitat for Humanity. 


He is survived by three children; a sister; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as one great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews as well as many life long, loving friends. Funeral Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, High Steeple in Edgar, with a reception to follow. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Hamburg. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at Peterson-Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar.


In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Walter’s name to the Edgar library in Edgar.
