----Hoops, August William (30 Dec. 1880 – 27 Apr. 1935)

August William Hoops son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hoops, was born at Wayside, Wisconsin, December 30, 1880. He attended the Lutheran school at Wayside, and after being thoroughly grounded in the fundamentals of the Christian religion, he was confirmed by the Rev. Carl Strasen, Jr. In the year 1899, he moved with his parents to Spencer, on July 1, 1902, he entered holy wedlock with Miss Elizabeth Griepentrog of Spencer. This union was blessed with three sons and two daughters. The deceased brother followed the occupation of a cheesemaker. For a number of years he conducted a hardware business in Spencer, later returning to his former occupation. About two years ago, he suffered a paralytic stroke. He entered the Marshfield Clinic for treatment, and later a hospital at Madison. He returned to his home seemingly much improved. On March 17, of this year, a second stroke left him entirely helpless. He was taken to the Marshfield hospital, where on last Saturday, April 27, at 2:55 P.M. he breathed his last; aged 54 years, 3 months and 27 days.

He leaves to mourn his death his sorrowing widow, two daughters, Mrs. Adela Huber and Mrs. Laura Brockopp, both of Spencer; three sons, Raymond of Barron, Arthur of Greenwood, and Wilbur, at home; his aged father, John Hoops; four brothers, Henry of Moon, Martin and Ervin of Spencer, and Herbert of Fond du Lac: five sisters, Mrs. Lydia Vanderhoof, Mrs. Renata Plath, and Mrs. Elsa Marten of Spencer, Mrs. Sabina Graham of Chilli, and Mrs. Lela Molle of Unity: three grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. His mother, two brothers, Philip and Reinhard, and one sister, Mrs. Sena Luepke, preceded him in death.

The deceased throughout his life was a faithful member of the Lutheran church, serving also as trustee and member of the school board of the local congregation.

Mr. Hoops was a loving, thoughtful and considerate husband and father. He made honesty and service part of his life's creed and the faithful attempt to practice these qualities makes his loss great indeed to his family, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the home and at Trinity Lutheran church, Rev. A. C. Stapel officiating, with interment in the Spencer cemetery.

The pall bearers were: Chas. Andre, Wm. Clark, Chas. Haslow, Shirley Hoftiezer, Fred Luepke, Herman Siemers. Flowers were carried by Helen Anderson, Mrs. H. Fisher, Vila Kommer, Pauline Luepke, Lucille Mellentine, Ilma Natzke, Maureen Natzke, Anita Natzke, and Helen Natzke.
