Debra Jean Wiinamaki, 53, Medford, died Thursday, March 25 at her home, under the care of her family and hospice.

A memorial service was held Sunday, March 28 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating. Inurnment was at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford.

The former Debra Schmitz was born December 1, 1956 in La Crosse to Donald and Mary (Coughlin) Schmitz. She attended Elmwood elementary schools and was a 1975 graduate of Elmwood High School.

On July 11, 1980 in Elmwood, she married Robert "Bob" Wiinamaki, who survives. She worked in the Taylor County Veterans Service Office in Medford, then in 2007 she was elected Taylor County Treasurer, an office she held until ill health recently forced her to resign.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and State of Wisconsin County Treasurers Association. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her parents, Donald and Mary Schmitz of Elmwood; two daughters, Sarah (Jess) Roberts of St. Paul, Minn., and Amber (Jason) Jochimsen of Kimberly; six brothers and sisters, Cynthia (John) Sinz of Menomonie, Steven of Oxnard, Calif., Thomas (Jean) of Eagan, Minn., Frederic (Tali) of Mondovi, Nancy (Joseph) Ousley Jr. of Stillwater, Minn., and David of Portage; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Margaret Wiinamaki of Bayfield; a brother-in-law, Al (Peggy) Wiinamaki of Minnetonka, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Liz Wiinamaki of Tampa, Fla., and Arlynn (Jeff) Rehburg of Mebane, N.C.; a grandson, Samuel Roberts of St. Paul; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Wisconsin Chapter.
