Ernest E. Neitzel, 98, Owen, died Thursday, Oct. 16 at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen, where he had resided the past two years, while under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice of Marshfield.

 

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 20 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Curtiss, with Rev. Rebekah Tarras officiating. Interment was at Pine Hill Cemetery in Curtiss. Honorary pallbearers were all his great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Mark, Dane, Ernest and Troy Jensen, David Fischer and Steve Thomas.


Ernest Neitzel was born August 8, 1910 in the Town of Holway to the late Charles and Caroline (Ried) Neitzel.

 

He attended Golden Willow School in the Town of Holway. He worked for H.A. Liberty as a farmer, and also worked as a lumberman in the Westboro area.


On September 23, 1936 in Dorchester, he married Adeline Hamm, who survives. He farmed in the Town of Hoard for many years from 1934 until his retirement in 1972. While farming, he did woods work and operated a blacksmith shop. He also did custom plowing and bailing of hay for farmers. In April of 2006 he entered Clark County Health Care Center.


He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening.


In addition to his wife of 72 years, survivors include a daughter, Vera (Bruce) Jensen of Dorchester; two sisters, Anne Hamus of Colby and Mildred Hamm of Curtiss; a brother, Walter "Pete" of West Plains, Mo.; four grandchildren, Marie (Steve) Thomas of Delano, Minn., Dale Jensen of Curtiss, Mark (Tammy) Jensen of Medford, and Dane (Lorean) Jensen of Dorchester; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Smith, Hilda Borski and Lilly Sann; and three brothers, Elmer, Charles and Clifford.

 

Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.
