James "Slim Jim" Zephirin Hince, 75, Medford, died Thursday, Oct. 2 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Sunday, Oct. 5 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Whittlesey, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating. Inurnment will be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Cemetery at a later date.
James Hince was born April 13, 1933 in Oklee, Minn., to the late Zephirin and Florence (Lambert) Hince. He attended grade school and high school in Oklee. As a young man he was employed at Bucyrus-Erie Co. in Milwaukee. He served in the United States Army as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War from 1954 to 1956.
On May 24, 1958 at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Milwaukee, he married Judith Lorraine Lusher, who survives. They lived in Milwaukee for 15 years before moving to Medford in 1973 where he owned and operated Jim's Machine Shop for 26 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and a past member of Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Post No. 519 of Stetsonville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling and camping throughout the United States and Canada.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three children, Beth (Richard) Karweick of Crestwood, Ky., Michael of Greenfield and special friend, Lisa Leu of Medford, and Scott of Medford; two brothers, Ambrose (Marie) of East Troy and Francis of South Milwaukee; a sister, Frances (Ronald) Bohlke of Maple Grove, Minn.; friend, Jean Havelka of West Allis; four grandchildren, Lauren Karweick, Christopher Karweick and Emily Karweick, all of Crestwood and Sara Hince of Medford; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry at birth and Romeo.
Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
