Two Taylor County Residents Found Dead in Home –

On December 29, 2009, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the Taylor County Dispatch Center received a telephone call requesting a welfare check at a Town of Little Black home on County Highway A.  The initial report indicated that the 48-year-old woman that lived at the home had not reported to work or notified anyone of a reason for her absence.  This was reported to be very uncharacteristic for this woman.

On arrival, a Taylor County Deputy Sheriff observed that the home was secured, the curtains to all of the windows were shut and it did not appear as though anyone had come or gone for the residence for some time.  The Deputy Sheriff contacted department administration and ultimately, based on the officer’s observations, a decision was made to enter the home.  The officer stood by with several concerned co-workers for the arrival of a locksmith to open the door.

Upon entrance to the home, officers located the remains of two adults, Margaret S. Soyk, 48 and Donald R. Soyk, 48, both of W6247 County Highway A in the Township of Little Black in Taylor County. Initial investigation indicates that Margaret had died as a result of a blunt force injuries believed to have been caused by Donald.  Donald had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Initial information indicates that the two in this incident had been married in the past.  They had been co-habitating since being divorced in 2008.

Investigation is continuing at this time by members of Taylor County Sheriff’s Department, Medford Police Department, and Taylor County Medical Examiners Office.

At this time, there is no reason to believe there was anyone else involved in this incident.
