Florian Turba, 90, Rib Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 2 at Golden LivingCenter in Rib Lake.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Jan. 5 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, with Father Otto Bucher officiating. Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Rib Lake. Pallbearers were Gary Thums, Larry Ulczycki, Jeff Schreiner, Travis Schreiner, Larry Turba and Rodney Hempel.
Florian Turba was born December 27, 1919 in Marshfield to the late Frank and Anna (Brost) Turba. He attended Medford Grade School and was a 1937 graduate of Rib Lake High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946, earning a Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, four Bronze Battle Stars, three Overseas Service Bars and a Good Conduct Medal, achieving the rank of corporal.
After military service, he worked at a lumber mill in Marshfield until 1956 when he moved back to Rib Lake and took over the family dairy farm and operated it until 1984. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and past treasurer of the Town of Rib Lake. He enjoyed gardening and jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include two sisters, Florence Schreiner of Rib Lake and Catherine (Lawrence) Radiewitz of Eau Claire; a sister-in-law, Virginia Turba of Wisconsin Rapids; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Ray (Robie); three sisters, Helen Turba, Dorothy Turba and Julietta (Harvey) Bokath; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Schreiner.
Memorial contributions in his honor may be given to Good Shepherd Catholic Church or St. Ann School in Somerset.
Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
