Everett R. Smith, 86, Medford, died Tuesday, Sept. 7 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford, where he had resided the past three years.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Whittlesey, with Rev. Randal Jeppesen officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Salem Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Sherman, Clark County. Active pallbearers are Damon Englebretson, Jeremy Kirschbaum, John Kirschbaum, Travis Smith, Ryan Smith and Scott Witkus. Honorary pallbearers are Deanna and Brandon Englebretson.


Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.


Everett Smith was born April 11, 1924 in the Town of Fairchild, Eau Claire County, to the late Steve D. and Matie E. (Staves) Smith. He attended Humbird Grade School and was a graduate of Humbird High School.


On December 29, 1951 at Salem Lutheran Church in the Town of Sherman, Clark County, he married Betty J. Fisher, who survives. They owned and operated a dairy farm in the Humbird, Loyal and Spencer areas until 1976. He then worked for 20th Century Chemical Company in Spencer in sales and delivery until his retirement in 1986.


He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey, and past member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer and the Trinity Lutheran Church in Phillips. He enjoyed his family, all sports, especially bowling, and puzzles.


In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Cathy Smith of Medford; a son, Kerry (Jody) of Loyal; a sister, Ida Potvin of Kelleher, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Gladys Smith of Appleton; a brother-in-law, Jon (Carol) Fisher of Spencer; seven grandchildren, Damon Englebretson, Kristy (Scott) Witkus, Kandy (Dorn) Clark, John and Jeremy Kirschbaum, and Ryan and Travis (Christine) Smith; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin R.


In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to his family to be designated at a later date.
