Caroline "Carol" M. Virnig, 92, Town of Browning, died Thursday, Dec. 10 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford, where she had resided the past two weeks.

 

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 14 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating.

 

Cremainal inurnment will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford at a later date. Pallbearers were her grandsons, James and Joseph Vogt III, Pat Kleiber, Wade Matyka and Steve and Dan Virnig.

 

The former Caroline Rembleski was born February 21, 1917 in Gilman to the late Andrew and Mary (Cheslek) Rembleski. She attended Gilman Public Schools. On August 29, 1938 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman, she married Benjamin "Ben" A. Virnig, who preceded her in death on June 7, 2009. They lived in the Town of Browning where they owned a dairy farm for 38 years.

 

They moved to Tomahawk where she worked as a cook at the Watergate Supper Club for two years, then they moved back to the Town of Browning in spring of 1972 and she worked at Rolling Acres School in the Town of Medford where she served the kids lunch for 10 years.

 

She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Homemaker's Club. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, crocheting, playing cards with family and friends, and fishing in Canada and Tomahawk.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Kleiber of Milwaukee and Betty (Les) Krahn of Stratford; two sons, Robert (Sharon) and Larry (Sandi), both of Medford; a brother, Ed (Marion) of Cornell; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas on August 14, 1986; a grandson, Matthew Virnig on July 21, 1977; two sons-in-law, Ken Kleiber and Joe Vogt II; six brothers, Steve, Bill, John, Louie, Tony and Chester; and six sisters, Anna, Vicky, Mary, Josephine, Bernice and Frances.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Carol's family to be designated at a later date.
