Cecilia Slanicky, 92, Town of Chelsea, died Thursday, Oct. 14 at her home, while under hospice and palliative care.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Simon Catholic Church in Chicago, Ill. Interment was at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Justice, Ill. Pallbearers were John Slanicky, Michael Slanicky, Christopher Slanicky, Vince Nuccio, Rob Branfort and Randy Hannan.


The former Cecilia Pekelnicky was born on December 25, 1917 in Chicago to the late Ignac and Mary (Sterbiak) Pekelnicky. She attended St. Michael's School. She was a seamstress for various bridal shops in the Chicago area.


On October 22, 1938 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Chicago, she married Edward Slanicky, who preceded her in death in 1980. She resided in the Town of Chelsea the past 13 years.


She had been a member of St. Simon Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, growing roses, sewing, crocheting and making quilts.


Survivors include three sons, Kenneth of Lombard, Ill., and Edward (Susan) and Richard (Deborah), both of Tinley Park, Ill.; a daughter, Rita Mrozinski of Chelsea; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Mrozinski in 1996; a brother, Charles; two sisters, Mary (Vince) Grobarcik and Rose (John) Rajca; and a son-in-law, Tom Mrozinski in 2000.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
