Lawrence Joseph Nelson, 95, Ogema, died Wednesday, June 9 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 12 at Ogema Baptist Church, with Pastor Rodney Price officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Ogema, with full military honors conducted by the Southern Price County VFW Post No. 8491. Pallbearers were Albert Simpson, Dwight Simpson, Jonathon Quandt, Jeff Quandt, Jeffrey Quandt, Steven Nelson and Peter Nelson.


Lawrence Nelson was born February 14, 1915 in Niagara to the late Charles and Leona (Deneau) Nelson.

He attended grade school in Milwaukee and was a 1933 graduate of Lincoln High School. After high school, he was employed at a woodworking factory. In 1941 he was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps, and served until October 28, 1945, achieving the rank of corporal.


On September 6, 1947 at First Lutheran Church in Ogema, he married Edith Geneva Stevens, who survives. He was a salesman and employed for 15 years at Packrite Machine Company, retiring in the 1970s.


He enjoyed art, especially oil painting, model ship building, woodworking, history and reading.


In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Charles (Charlotte) of Georgia, and Steven and Peter (Kim), both of Ogema; five daughters, Jill (Dennis) Martin, Evelyn Beck and Cheryl Beck, all of Milwaukee, Bonnie (Jeff) Quandt of Omaha, Neb., and Tina (Richard) Ziglinski of West Allis; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys (Wilbur) Techmann; and a half-brother.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
