Douglas "Dooger" C. Peterson, 67, Town of Holway, Owen, died Tuesday, Nov.
24 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where he had been a patient the past month.
 
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m. at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, with Rev. Cathy Hinman officiating, and full military honors performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team.
 
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
 
Douglas Peterson was born March 6, 1942 in Kiester, Minn., to the late Carlyle V. and Ardis Peterson. He was a graduate of Kiester High School.
 
On October 21, 1983 at The United Church of Christ in Medford, he married
Jane A. Weber, who survives.
 
He was a Para Rescue in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War,
was awarded three Purple Hearts, awarded the Green Beret and was honorably
discharged. He was an engineer at Hurd's in Medford for five years, then worked at Phillip's Plastics in Medford in maintenance until his retirement in 2007.
 
He was a member of Klossner-Dietzler VFW No. 5729 of Medford, Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Post No. 519 of Stetsonville, and the NRA. Dooger was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He most of all enjoyed being with friends and especially enjoyed spending time with Scooper.
 
In addition to his wife, survivors include brothers and sisters, Robert (Pat) Peterson, Susan (Richard) Scott, Sarah (Larry) Anderson, Kathy (Bruce) Davison, Warren (Debra) Peterson and Allen (Mary) Peterson; a sister-in-law,
Camille Peterson; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many, many
friends.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Steven
and Richard.


In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Dooger's family to be designated at a later date.
