John James Hebda, 88, Rib Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 19 at Golden
LivingCenter in Rib Lake.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Nov. 24 at Good Shepherd
Catholic Church in Rib Lake, with Father Otto Bucher officiating. Interment
was at Lakeview Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Lehman-Clendenning American Legion Post No. 274.
 
Active pallbearers were Stan Hebda, George Zondlo, Barry Anderson, Ed Hebda, Jim Hebda and Jack Beck. Honorary pallbearer was Tom Hebda.
 
John Hebda was born January 26, 1921 in Rib Lake to the late Joseph and Anna
(Kazor) Hebda.
 
He attended Ward Grade School and was a graduate of Rib Lake High School. He worked on the family farm until entering the United Stares Army on June 22,
1942. He served from 1942 until 1944 in the Pacific Duty, and in 1944 went
to the European Theater until the end of World War II. He retired from the Army on November 1, 1962 with a rank of E6 Staff Sergeant.
 
After the service he took a course in building and construction. He was the
first man hired to build the Rib Lake Nursing Home and also built the Tomahawk Nursing Home, working for Northwest Construction for three years. He then worked for Weather Shield as a maintenance man for 12 years until his retirement in the 1980s.
 
On May 4, 1992 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Westboro, he married Marcella Rizzi, who preceded him in death on December 29, 2003.
 
He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, the DAV and the Retired
Enlisted Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially for muskies.
 
Survivors include a brother, Edward W. of Hemet, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hebda of Rib Lake; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
 
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley; three sisters, Stella (Francis) Kuznicki, Julia (Steve) Schabel and
Mary (Howard) Lamont; and a sister-in-law, Francesca Hebda.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family
with arrangements.
