Mary Isabel Sigmund, 93, Medford, died Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Memorial
Nursing Home in Medford, where she had resided the past two years.
 
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating. Burial will be at Molitor Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Molitor. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Eric Sigmund, Rodney Mahner, Ian Davison, Stewart Sigmund, Jerome Thums, Quintin Denzine, Tony Goulet and Luke Sigmund.
 
Visitation will be held at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford on Sunday, Nov. 1
from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary service at 7 p.m., and on Monday from 9 to
10:45 a.m.
 
The former Mary Gengler was born November 1, 1915 in Medford to the late
Anton and Catherine (Bodewin) Gengler. She attended grade school in Rice
Lake, Holy Rosary in Medford, graduated from Medford High School, attended
college in Milwaukee and received her teaching certificate from Taylor County Normal School.
 
She played basketball in high school and college and enjoyed cross country
skiing and swimming. She was a cadet teacher at Whittlesey and Rib Lake
(Greenwood) where she had at one time 51 students in all eight grades. She
then taught at the Molitor, Pinetree, Perkinstown and lastly Jump River schools.
 
In March of 1940, she married Walter Sigmund, who preceded her in death on
May 13, 1973. They moved to a farm west of Medford, then two years later
moved to a farm in the Town of Molitor where they stayed until October 1969
when they moved to Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada. In 1971 they moved
back to the farm in the Town of Molitor. After her husband's death she worked as a housekeeper at Holy Rosary Rectory until her retirement.
 
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
 
Survivors include nine children, Richard (Janet), Jean (Frank) Thums and Joyce (Gene) Denzine, all of Medford, Nancy Davison of Madison, Neal of Necedah, Leon (Diane) of Callicoon, N.Y., Gary (Sheila) of Schofield, Constance (Lawrence) Goulet of Quesnel, B.C., and Kevin (Cheryl) of Colfax; a brother, Eugene of West Bend; 38 grandchildren; over 100 great-grandchildren; and at least three great-great-grandchildren.
 
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen (Lee) Mahner; one grandchild, Isaac Sigmund in 1990; one great-grandchild, Gunner Denzine in 1998; three sisters, Catherine Brown, Theresa Zeman and Dolores Sigmund; and two brothers, Anthony and Matthew.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to Holy Rosary Catholic School.
