Harvey L. Draeger Sr., 85, Medford, died Friday, Oct. 9 at his home under
the care of his family and hospice.
 
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 12 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in
Medford, with Rev. Nancy Amacher officiating. Burial was at Medford
Evergreen Cemetery II with graveside military rites performed by the Medford
Military Honors Team.
 
Pallbearers were his grandchildren, William Sherman, Colleen Reed, Phillip
Vircks, Tammy Hansen, Nathan Haugen, Angela Lindahl, and Holly, Nickolas,
Shannon and Ashley Draeger.
 
Harvey Draeger was born April 6, 1924 in Milwaukee to the late Robert
Draeger and Margaret (Schlais) Draeger Sr. He attended Gad area elementary
school and was a 1942 graduate of Medford High School. After his education
he worked the Dakota wheat fields.
 
On November 10, 1951 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, he married Lucille
Westrich, who survives.
 
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He farmed in the Town
of Hammel, did logging work, then worked at the former Harvey Co. in Medford
and later at Weather Shield in Medford until his retirement. During
retirement he taxied the area Amish.
 
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Klossner-Dietzler VFW No.
5729, and a former member of the Gad baseball teams. He served on the Town
of Hammel School Board and served as the tax assessor for the Town of Hammel
for a time. He enjoyed woodworking, carving, reading, bowling, boxing,
gardening and his grandchildren.
 
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, David (Lisa) Westrich
of Chiefland, Fla., Bill (Vicki) Draeger of Gilman and Tom (Kelly) Draeger
of Rochester, Minn.; five daughters, Marge Draeger, Bessie Draeger and
Gloria (Steve) Lindahl, all of Medford, Suzi (Duane) Haugen of Canby, Minn.,
and Diane (Boyd) Vircks of Colfax; a brother, Robert Jr. (Delores) of
Medford; a sister, Arlene (Ed) Colander of Pennsauken, N.J.; 26
grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura
Draeger in 1958; two sons, Raymond in 1998 and Harvey Jr. in 2006; a
brother, Dennis; and a sister, Edith Weiler.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the St. Paul's Lutheran
Church Future Fund.
 
Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.
