Greta M. Gruneberg, 99, Medford, died Thursday, July 30 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford, where she had resided the past six years.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 1 at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, with Pastor Pete Warmanen officiating. Burial will be at Medford Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Eric, Kyle, Kim and Mike Poncek and Pat and Brad Gruneberg.
The former Greta Berg was born August 2, 1909 in Guestrow, Germany, to the late Adolf E. and Ida J. (Henning) Berg. She attended Germany schools. She moved with her family from Germany to Chicago, Ill., when she was 16.
In 1930 in Chicago, she married Erich G. Gruneberg, who preceded her in death on August 14, 1972.
She became a United States citizen in 1935. While in Chicago, she worked as a homemaker and factory worker, then in 1941 they moved to Eau Claire and lived there for nine years. They owned and operated the High View Resort at Lake Esadore from 1950 until 1961, then moved to Tomahawk until 1967 when they moved to Roswell, N.M.
After retirement they returned to Medford.
She enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening and playing cards.
Survivors include a son, Ronald (Gail) of Medford; three grandchildren, Kimberly (Mike) Poncek of Medford, Patrick Gruneberg of Apple Valley, Minn. and Bradley Gruneberg of Sheboygan; and three great-grandchildren.
