Lowell Hartzell, 92, of rural Gilman, died Saturday, July 25, 2009 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on May 6, 1917 to the late Archie and Lila (Hurlburt) Hartzell in the Town of Arthur, rural Chippewa County.
On August 28, 1940 he was united in marriage to Goldene Nichols in Waucon, Iowa.
The couple then moved to the Gilman area where he owned and operated Hartzell Trucking, hauling milk for many years. The couple did many things together including making trips to the Alaskan Highway, snowmobiling and he was also an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his son, Larry (Lillian) Hartzell and daughter, Dawn (Keith) Clark, both of Gilman; eight grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ken (Gladys) Hartzell of Cornell; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Hartzell of Gilman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Goldene in 2002; two sisters, Ellen Vanderkamp and Dorothy Goodman; and three brothers, Glenn, Orville and Leon.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 at the Northland Baptist Church in Hannibal with Rev. Richard Chromy officiating. Burial will be in the Meadowbrook Cemetery, Gilman. Friends may call on Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Gilman Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
