Evelyn Mary Thums, 88, Rib Lake, died Monday, May 11 at Golden LivingCenter in Rib Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, May 15 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, with Father Otto Bucher officiating. Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Rib Lake.

Pallbearers were Martin, Randall and Paul Dums, Joseph Schmidtfranz, George Dums and Richard Olson. The former Evelyn Olson was born January 23, 1921 in Racine to the late Bernard and Hilda (Meyer) Olson. She attended Chelsea Graded School.

On November 22, 1941 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea, she married Rudolph John Thums, who preceded her in death on August 22, 1988. They made their home in the Town of Greenwood where they operated a dairy farm for 30 years. She worked at the Rib Lake Health Care Center for five years.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, baking, listening to polka music and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Gerald (Laura) of Rib Lake; a daughter, Irene Dums of Rib Lake; a son-in-law, Anthony Pogorzelski of Henrico, N.C.; a brother, Norman (Lucille) of Shiocton; two sisters, Myrtle (Bob) Tripp of Rib Lake and Marian (Sylvester) Stiel of Wausau; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Olson and Margaret Olson, both of Rib Lake; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Pogorzelski in 2008; a son-in-law, James Dums in 2007; two infant grandchildren; and three brothers, Marvin, Harry and Harold.

Memorial contributions in her honor may be given to Good Shepherd Catholic Church or Historic St. Ann's. Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
