Sidney "Sid" "Poika" Roger Dean Maki, 71, Prentice, died Friday, Dec. 19 at his home under the care of his family and Hope Hospice.

 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 23 at Ogema Baptist Church, with Pastor David Root and Pastor Dave Elleman officiating. Interment was at Garden of Memories in the Town of Hill. Pallbearers were Bud Kalander, Ralph "Babe" Nehls, John Schutze, Francis Lind, Kathy Shaw, Jim Preston, Russell Kapitz and Ron DeBoth.


Sidney Maki was born March 31, 1937 at his maternal grandparents' home in Brantwood, to the late Edward Carl and Esther Irene (Perkio) Maki.

 

He attended Tripoli Graded School, Tri-County High School in Tripoli and worked in the woods after high school.


On June 16, 1955, he married Ruth Peterson. They later divorced.

 

He worked at Hurd Windows and Doors. On September 27, 1977 in Chicago, Ill., he married Eleanor Marie Dilley, who survives.

 

He was employed at Prentice Hydraulics, later known as Omark Industries, and then at Blount in Prentice for over 30 years.


He was a member of Knox Creek Heritage Association. He enjoyed shooting pool, garage sales, auctions, fishing, remodeling his home, antique car shows, especially the Iola Car Show, and his Dodge Dart convertible.


In addition to his wife Eleanor, survivors include three daughters, Debra (Delbert) Gustafson of Prentice, Tammie (Steven) Reynolds of Rib Lake and Lori (Donald) Maki-Erickson of Schofield; five stepdaughters, Debra (Dennis) Lind and Dawn (Hal) Swenson, both of Rib Lake, Diana (Greg) DeBoth of Prentice, Denise (Luke) Harubin of Taylor, Mich. and Darcy (fiancé Mark Listle) Johnson of Tripoli; a brother, Kenneth (Patricia) of Pineville, Ore.; a sister, Linda (fiancé Everett Fox) Cook of Fifield; 18 grandchildren, Daniel (Chantell) Gustafson, Dawn (Wayne) Korenuk, Amber (Bob) Schantner, Ashley (Craig) Hamilton, Ann Reynolds, Colton Maki, Andrea (Eric) Johnson and Melissa (fiancé Brad Seavers) Weinke, Joshua (Jessica) Lind, Shanna (Ryan) Scheithauer, Jenny (Jason) Johnson, Pete Clendenning, Jake (Kari) Clendenning, Sam DeBoth, Alex DeBoth and Tanya, Tyler and Tatum Swenson; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Maddox Scheithauer; and a sister, June Maki.


Memorial contributions in his honor may be given to Hope Hospice.

 

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
