Obit: Haggen, Hansten H. (1860 – 1952)
Surnames: Haggen ---------Source: THORP COURIER (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) 05/01/1952 -------- Haggen, Hansten H. (17 AUG 1860 – 20 APR 1952) Hansten H. Haggen passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls Sunday morning, April 20th, 1952. He was born in Aamodt, Norway on Aug. 17, 1860. While there he served in the Royal Guard for the King of Norway from 1878 to 1881. While a young man he came to the United States and lived with his mother and sister in Sharon, Wis. and Poplar Grove, Ill., where his mother and sister passed away and were buried. He came to the town of Aurora (Taylor Co., Wis.) in 1903 where he lived until his death. He was the Clerk of the town of Aurora for 25 years and a charter member of St. John’s Lutheran Church here which he helped build. He was also a member of the Sons of Norway and Osterday’s Loget. He was highly respected and loved by the people. He made his home with Mr. and Mrs. George Welch the past few years, where he still could be close to his old farm home. The funeral was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church Wednesday, April 23rd at 1:30 with Rev. John Alner officiating. Mrs. Rueben Burtard of Gilman sang “Abide with Me”: and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, and was accompanied on the organ by Miss Wilma Erickson, the church organist. He was laid to rest in the Yellow River Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Henry Hagenson, Ed Erickson, Evan Almberg, Ivar Smithrude, Peter R. Filipiak and Douglas Mattes. The out of town people attending were Mr. and Mrs. Erick Forest, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson, Chris and Oscar Johnson and Mrs. Louis Bakke of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Lenard Aaseth of Stanley; Mr. and Mrs. John Goshaw, Tom Grotting and Ole Johnson, all of Jump River. |
