Surnames: Acker, Bucher, Butera, Erl, Gacek, Gauger, Liske, Maager, Matyka, Probst, Thieme ----Source: The Star News (Medford, Taylor Co., WI), Thursday, April 30, 2009, Online Edition ----Matyka, Frank (March 22, 1919 - April 26, 2009) Frank Matyka, 90, Town of Greenwood, died Sunday, April 26 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, April 30 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, with Father Otto Bucher officiating. Interment was at St. Ann's Cemetery in the Town of Greenwood, with full military honors presented by the Lehman-Clendenning American Legion Post No. 274 of Rib Lake. Pallbearers were Jerry Thieme, David Acker, Jeff Probst, Tony Butera, Wade Matyka, Caleb Butera, Alex Matyka, Derek Thieme, Ryan Acker and Tim Thieme. Frank Matyka was born March 22, 1919 to the late Joseph and Agnes Matyka. He attended Highland Graded School and was a 1937 graduate of Rib Lake High School. He served in the United States Navy as a boatswain mate for six years during World War II. On April 14, 1951 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Rib Lake, he married Gladys Lucille Gacek, who survives. He owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Greenwood until his retirement. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Lehman-Clendenning Post No. 274; board of directors for Taylor County REA for eight years; past treasurer of Rib River School District; fire warden for the Town of Greenwood for 50 years; Rib River School Board; and Town of Greenwood Election Board. He enjoyed building and carpentry, gardening and reading, especially topics of history, politics and current events. In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Robert (Joyce) and Kenneth (Dawn), both of Medford, Alan of Stetsonville, and David of Athens; four daughters, Diane (David) Acker, Gail (Jerry) Thieme, Peggy (Tony) Butera and Janine (Jeff) Probst, all of Rib Lake; three brothers, Peter (Bernice), Paul (Deloris) and Charles, all of Rib Lake; a sister, Lucy (Marvin) Liske of Medford; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one stepgrandson; six stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Matyka; a grandson, Christopher Matyka; two great-granddaughters, Mackensie and Lindsay Matyka; two brothers, Joe (Irene) and Jim; and four sisters, Agnes (Herman) Maager, Elizabeth (Harold) Gauger, Anne (Joe) Erl and Catherine Matyka. Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements. |
