(April 9, 1953 - April 7, 2009) Gary "Tuna" L. Tanner, 55, Medford, died Tuesday, April 7 at his home. Per Gary's wishes, a remembrance and gathering will be held at The Last Resort in Stetsonville on Saturday, April 18 from 1 to 5 p.m., with full military honors conducted by the Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Post No. 519 at 1 p.m. There will also be a Celebration of Life at Tanners Tap on Main Street in Omro on Sunday, May 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. Gary Tanner was born April 9, 1953 in Oshkosh to the late Willis R. and Helen (Deyoe) Tanner. He attended Omro schools. He served in the United States Army from 1971 to 1974, worked at Arrowhead Conveyors, Leach Company and Quick Construction. He then moved to Stetsonville where he purchased the bar on the corner of County Road A and Highway 13 that he named "Tanners." He enjoyed his bar and met many new friends. Survivors include special friends, the Vermaat family, Donald, Jacob, Jamie, Eathan and Kayla of Medford; stepchildren, Kelly (Mel) Larsen of Withee and their children, Heather, Jeremy and Allora, Keith Binder and his child, Wesley Ann; brothers and sisters, Edward of Oshkosh, Chuck (Barbara) of Omro, Mary Wuske of Berlin, Sandy (Richard) Kettlewell of Omro; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Tanner of Omro and Darlene Tanner of Poysippi; many nieces and nephews; and special nephew, Pat Tanner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Richard, Donald, Mike and Jean Tanner; sister-in-law, Marlene Tanner; and brother-in-law, Bill Wuske. The Tanner family would like to thank the Vermaat family for all their love, care and support given to Gary. He thought of you as family.
