(Keehner) (January 1, 1922 - April 12, 2009) Carol L. Nelson, 87, of Gilman, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at the Gilman Care Center. A memorial service will be held at the Gilman Funeral Home on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Craig Lindgren officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date at the Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday. Carol was born on January 1, 1922 in Potosi, the daughter of the late Hugo and Hazel (Pringle) Keehner. Carol attended area schools and graduated from Potosi High School. She met and married Carl T. Sager shortly after, and they became farmers. Carol went back to school and earned a chef's degree in Madison. She worked as head baker at the Memorial Union (UW-Madison) for several years, then moved on to become the baker for Edgewood College (Madison), where she retired from after 11 years. Carol was known as the "Long John Queen" which was fried pastry with vanilla or chocolate icing. Carol enjoyed her family, cooking, reading, driving and especially making new friends. She met people from many different countries and maintained many of those friendships throughout her lifetime. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Frank) Lato of Gilman and Mary E. Holt of Madison; three sons, Carl (Debbie) Sager of Gilman, Roger (Linda) Sager of Monroe and Nathan (Trina) Nelson of Mosinee; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert (Delphine) Keehner of Bryant, Ala.; her sister, Charlotte (James) Heer of Platteville; and nieces and nephews. Carol is preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother and brother, Danny; her first husband, Carl; second husband, Robert Nelson; her son Neil Sager; and a granddaughter, Caralyn Sager. |
