----Day, Gary “KE4FE” Van Sackett (August 22, 1939 - April 7, 2009)

Gary "KE4FE" Van Sackett Day, 69, Rib Lake, died Tuesday, April 7 with his wife and dogs by his side.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment with full military honors will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Gary Day was born August 22, 1939 in Springfield, Mass., to the late Gary and Mary Ida (Littlefield) Van Sackett.

He attended grade school in Daytona Beach, Fla., and was a 1957 graduate of New Smyrna Beach High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy, served 23 years from 1957 until 1980, and achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

He was united in marriage to Carolyn Perry in New Jersey and they were later divorced.

On January 17, 1975 in Philadelphia, Pa., he married Patricia Ryan, who survives. He was employed with and volunteered for the Red Cross, and for three years was stationed in the Western Pacific.

He was a member of the Amateur Radio Operators and the Lehmann-Clendenning American Legion Post No. 274 of Rib Lake. He enjoyed cooking, helping others to set up their computers and his little dogs.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, David (Stephanie) of Troutville, Va.; a daughter, Teresa (David) Ferry of Strafford, N.H.; three grandchildren, Abigail Day and Meagan and Nicole Johnson; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann (Wesley) Duling.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
