Obit: Schraufnagel, Maryjo (1926 - 2009)
Surnames: Goding, Gumz, Hammer, Luther, Peissig, Rajendran, Schraufnagel, Umlauft, VanDeventer ----Source: The Star News (Medford, Taylor Co., WI), Thursday, March 26, 2009, Online Edition ----Schraufnagel, Maryjo (Goding) (December 27, 1926 - March 19, 2009) Maryjo Schraufnagel's journey through life ended on March 19, 2009 after a lingering illness. She was 82. Maryjo was born May 18, 1926 in Rockford, Ill., to Klea and George Goding. On September 7, 1946 she married Wayne Hammer. He died in 1983. Maryjo married Cletus Schraufnagel on August 23, 1985. Maryjo and Cletus enjoyed spending their winters in Texas for 22 years until ill health required them to stay in Wisconsin year-round. They also enjoyed traveling both in and out of the country. Maryjo enjoyed many kinds of needlework creating and sharing beautiful memories for family and friends. She leaves her husband Cletus and children, Candace Lynn (Frits) VanDeventer of Long Beach, Calif., Kent (Maggie) Hammer of Hilton Head, S.C. & Trempealeau, Wis. and Brenda (Bryan) Gumz from Medford. She was the proud grandma of eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Maryjo also leaves stepchildren, Carol (Steve) Luther, Pat (Sharon) Schraufnagel, Terry (Faye) Schraufnagel, all of them from Colby, Dennis, deceased, (Sue) Schraufnagel from Edgar, Mary (Rod) Umlauft from Stetsonville and Joan (Gene) Peissig from Abbotsford; 28 stepgrandchildren; and 33 stepgreat-grandchildren. Maryjo was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She especially enjoyed her 38 great-grandchildren. Maryjo's caring ways and sense of humor will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials given to the family will be donated to hospice. A memorial gathering was held Monday, March 23 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby. A funeral mass was held at the church on Monday, March 23, with Father Anandran Rajendran officiating. Acting as pallbearers were her grandsons. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford assisted the family with arrangements.
