William "Bill" Ziembo, 86, Town of Little Black, died Monday, May 31 at his home, while under hospice and palliative care. At his request, no services will be held.

William Ziembo was born March 28, 1924 in Rib Lake to the late Anton and Valeria (Gubalum) Ziembo.

He attended Rib River Graded School and Rib Lake High School. He was employed at a cheese factory and on the family farm. He enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II in Japan, Germany and the Philippines. He earned the rank of Corporal and was a messenger, receiving a bronze star.

On May 21, 1947 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, he married Bernice Marie Berger, who survives. He farmed in Deer Creek and also worked at Hurd Millwork for four or five years. They moved to Milwaukee during the 1970s where he worked as a carpenter for six months. They moved back to Little Black where he built a tavern called The Black Knight and owned it for two years. He continued to work as a carpenter until retiring in 1986.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford VFW and Stetsonville American Legion. He enjoyed fishing.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, William P. (Barbara) of Minneapolis, Minn.; six grandchildren, Kimberlee Ziembo, Kris (Teri) Ziembo, Trisha (fiancé Nick Sandman) Ziembo, Tim (Carla) Ziembo, Katie Ziembo and Danielle (Kevin) Johnson; two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Emma Ziembo and Helen Ziembo, both of Rib Lake; a brother-in-law, Eddie Hebda of California; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, George (Katie), Phillip, Tony (Alice) and Raymond; two sisters, Christina (Conrad) Bormann and Frances Hebda; step-sister, Martha (Wally) Blomquist; and two step-brothers, Stanley ( Martha) Ujke and Leo (Marge) Ujke.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to the family.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
