George L. Webb, 97, Medford, died Friday, Nov. 26 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford, where he had resided the past two months, most recently under hospice care.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 30 at First Baptist Church in Medford, with Rev. Brian Wipf officiating. Burial was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Pallbearers were Scott Webb, Todd Perrin, David Rause, Cory Laher, Dan Laher and Jack Griffin.


George Webb was born on November 8, 1913 in Kempton, Ind., to the late Emmons and A. Beatrice (Lybrook) Webb. He was educated in the Indiana school system, and graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, along with a one year postgraduate study in metallurgy.


He married Frances Chambers, who survives. His interest was in the design of electrical products for automobiles, and he had 15 U.S. patents. His designs were put into production by the Essex Wire Corp. to supply Ford and Chrysler automobiles. In Indiana, he supported the Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and was a deacon. They have resided in Medford since 1994.


He was a member of First Baptist Church, Medford Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and Order of the Eastern Stars. He enjoyed fishing, golf, ham radio, stamp collecting and miniature railroads.


In addition to his wife of 72 years, survivors include a son, Paul (Lynn) of Medford, and two grandchildren, Scott (Gwen) and Amanda Webb, both of Medford.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church in his name.
