Ralph K. Thiede, 75, Stetsonville, died Saturday, Dec. 11 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, under palliative care, where he had been a patient for two weeks, following a battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, with Father Gali Show Reddy officiating, and military rites performed by the Stetsonville American Legion Military Honors Team. Inurnment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in the Town of Little Black.


Ralph Thiede was born on June 6, 1935 in the Town of Hammel to the late Ralph Ernest and Vearl Theresa (Hoffman) Thiede. He attended Meadowbrook Grade School in the Town of Hammel and was a 1954 graduate of Medford High School. He served in the United States Marines from 1954 to 1956 during the Korean Conflict.


On October 10, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville, he married Marcia "Marcy" M. Danen, who survives. He did logging work, worked at Frischmann's Garage, Ruesch Furniture and Frey Flooring for periods of time. From 1967 until retirement, he owned and operated Ralph's Carpet Service. They also operated a turkey farm in the Town of Deer Creek.

He took care of the Legion ballpark beer stand in Stetsonville for 10 years, and the Centennial Community Center in Stetsonville storage unit from 1998 to the present time.


He was a member of Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Post No. 519 of Stetsonville, Klossner-Dietzler VFW Post No. 5729 of Medford, Badger State Disabled American Veterans and Centennial Community Center. He enjoyed making firewood and watching birds.


In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Todd of Milwaukee and Gary of Logan, Utah; two daughters, Jodi Thiede of San Diego, Calif., and Kaye Thiede of Fond du Lac; two brothers, Lester (Louella) and Gene (Sharon), both of Medford; and a sister-in-law, Marvel Thiede of Medford.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth in 2009.


The family would like to invite everyone to a celebration of his life and luncheon to be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Centennial Community Center.
