(July 20, 1917 - May 9, 2010) John C. Diesing, 92, Medford, died Sunday, May 9 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where he had been a patient the past seven days. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 13 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger officiating. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford, with full military honors performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team. Pallbearers are his nephews, Lon, Rick and Randy Diesing, Doug and Grant Sycks, and Larry, Lamoine and Duane Gilbertson.
He graduated from Plum City High School in 1935, from River Falls State College in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science degree in science and agriculture, and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1946 with a master's degree in microbiology. He enlisted in the army Signal Corps in 1941, prior to the outbreak of hostilities, and was honorably discharged in 1945 at the rank of sergeant. He moved to Medford in 1946 and began employment as the predecessor to the current Maple Island, as a chemist in quality control, ultimately retiring on September 1, 1987 as plant manager.
