John C. Diesing, 92, Medford, died Sunday, May 9 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where he had been a patient the past seven days.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 13 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger officiating. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford, with full military honors performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team. Pallbearers are his nephews, Lon, Rick and Randy Diesing, Doug and Grant Sycks, and Larry, Lamoine and Duane Gilbertson.

John Diesing was born July 20, 1917 on the family farm in Maiden Rock, Pierce County, to the late John N. and Mary (Scholz) Diesing.

He graduated from Plum City High School in 1935, from River Falls State College in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science degree in science and agriculture, and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1946 with a master's degree in microbiology. He enlisted in the army Signal Corps in 1941, prior to the outbreak of hostilities, and was honorably discharged in 1945 at the rank of sergeant. He moved to Medford in 1946 and began employment as the predecessor to the current Maple Island, as a chemist in quality control, ultimately retiring on September 1, 1987 as plant manager.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where he was a member of the choir from 1947 to 1990; Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1744 from 1949 until his death; and served as financial secretary from 1958 to 1997. He enjoyed reading, especially American history and political science.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Schneider of Hudson; a son, Michael "Spike" of Medford; a sister, Cecelia (Murlin) Sycks of Red Wing, MN; a grandson, Brent Schneider of Lake Mills; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Francis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to his family to be designated at a later date.
