Myrtle I. Rau, 87, Medford, died Saturday, May 15 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford, where she had resided the past week.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 19 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medford, with Rev. James Krueger officiating. Burial was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Amber Korb, Heidi Cady, Brenda Halverson, Tracy Meyer, Heather Rau and Jennifer Mueller. Active pallbearers were her grandsons, Jeremiah Glamann, Scott Wright and Jon, Todd, Paul, Mike, Bobby, Brad and Matt Rau.


The former Myrtle Stibbe was born May 15, 1923 in the Town of Greenwood to the late Richard William and Rosa Emma Louise (Klemm) Stibbe. She attended Town of Greenwood Elementary School. She worked at a cheese factory in Green Bay.


On April 22, 1944 in Medford, she married John F. Rau Jr., who preceded her in death on September 8, 1995. They farmed in the Town of Goodrich before moving to the City of Medford in 1969. She also worked as a dietary aid at Memorial Health Center in Medford for 23 years until her retirement.


She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and past member of the Ladies of Immanuel. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, flowers and spending time with family and friends.


Survivors include a daughter, Lynn (Craig) Glamann of Medford; three sons, Leon (Karen) and Ed (special friend Barb Jochimsen), both of Medford, and Lawrence (Marilyn) of Star Prairie; a son-in-law, Donald (Donna) Wright of Medford; a sister, Esther Steinman of Rib Lake; three sisters-in-law, Laura Stibbe of Rib Lake, Ann Utter of Marshfield and Theresa Faber of Medford; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis in 2001; a daughter, Stella Wright in 2003; a granddaughter, Kendra Wright; a daughter-in-law, Lynette Rau in 1997; two brothers, Gilbert and Alvin; and three sisters, Violet Johnas, Fern Nowak and Edna Steinman.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
