John S. Olynick, age 85, of Jump River, Wis., passed away on Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Cornell Area Care Center, Cornell, Wis.

John was born July 7, 1925 in Jump River, Wis., to the late Joseph and Verona (Prasnicki) Olynick.

He graduated from Hannibal High School in 1943 and on June 15, 1949 was united in marriage to Dolores Lechleitner in Gilman, Wis.

He started his employment with Harold Dressler and in January 1948, he purchased the business, which is now John S. Olynick Inc. John worked for 62 years, refusing to retire. He looked forward to his fishing trips in Canada and hunting elk. He also enjoyed many family weekends and the Fourth of July celebrations at their cabin in Holcombe, Wis.


John is survived by his wife, Dolores of Jump River, Wis.; and his six children, Diane (John) Kornesczuk of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Ronald (Kathleen) Olynick of Jump River, Wis., Allan (Sue) Olynick of Cadott, Wis., Mary (Jim) Duffy of Eau Claire, Wis., Karen (Jay) Boxrucker of Medford, Wis., and Cheryl (Troy) Story of Cornell, Wis.; 15 grandchildren, Nadine and David Kornesczuk, Chris and Tim Olynick, Brittany, Kayla and Cole Olynick, Brandon and Ryan Duffy, Kendall Rosemeyer, Randi and Corie Boxrucker, and Anah, Aden and Ava Story; eight great-grandchildren, Carson and Nolan Dahm, Amber Kornesczuk, Brayden, Allison and Averie Olynick, and Braya and Haily Duffy; two brothers, Carl (Joan) Olynick and Jim (Dixie) Olynick; and one sister, Josephine (Cleo) Hegeholz. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by one sister, Anna Olynick; and three brothers, George, Andy and Joe Jr. Olynick.


A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Gilman, Wis., with Fr. John Long officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Nebo Cemetery, Jump River, Wis. Friends and family may call on Friday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the Gilman Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Hope Lodge of the American Cancer Society in Marshfield, Wis.
