Bio: Walther, Emil H., Pastor (1880)
----Surname: Walther ----Source: The Centennial Booklet of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, 1876 - 1976, page 40 Walther, Emil H. (December 22, 1880) “Sons Of The Congregation Who Entered The Ministry” Emil H. Walther, son of Emil and Emilie Walther of Immanuel’s congregation in Medford, was born in Oberentfelden, Switzerland on December 22, 1880. He came to the United States with his parents and other members of the family, settling on a farm near Medford. After completing elementary school, he attended Medford High School. Due to the shortage of rural elementary teachers, high school students were permitted to write an examination to receive a teaching certificate in rural public schools. It is not known how long he taught before entering Northwestern College in Watertown, Wisconsin, and graduating in 1905. In the fall of 1905, he entered the Lutheran Seminary and graduated in 1908. During his pastorate, he served congregations in North Freedom (Rural Ann Arbor) Michigan, Doylestown, Randolph, Fall River, Fountain Prairie and Wisconsin Rapids. He also ministered to a small congregation in Babcock, Wisconsin. Pastor Walther was suddenly called from his ministerial work by the Lord while still in active work as minister of St. Paul’s congregation in Wisconsin Rapids. At the time of his demise, he was survived by his widow, two daughters and two sons. His sons, Pastors Alfred and Hebert, are serving Lutheran congregations as ministers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Danville, Illinois, respectively. |
