Darleen R. Hallgren, 75, Medford, died Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Stone Crest Residence in Wausau.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 4 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating. Interment was at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford. Pallbearers were her granddaughters, Sadie Hamill, Kendra Wendlandt, Kelsie Hallgren, Sarah and Laura Reimann, Katelyn and Rebecca Kwiesielewicz and Jessica Magalski.


The former Darleen Quello was born August 17, 1935 in Calumet, Mich., to the late Bartholomew and Ruth (Nicholls) Quello.

She attended Calumet elementary schools, graduated from Calumet High School in 1952, and from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.


On September 4, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Laurium, Mich., she married Kenneth H. Hallgren, who preceded her in death on February 4, 2010. They resided in various places and she was a housewife and mother. In 1974 they moved to Medford and she worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block, co-owned and managed the Medford Fitness Club from 1984 to 1985, co-owned and did bookkeeping work for B&B Engineering for over 25 years, and did substitute teaching for the Medford School District.


She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where she served on various committees and taught religious education; served as director for the Frances L. Simek Library in Medford; and served on the City of Medford Planning Commission for periods of time. She enjoyed curling, bowling, golfing, gardening, sewing, collecting dolls and reading.


Survivors include four daughters, Sandra (Keith) Wendlandt of Sturgeon Bay, Janet (Robert) Reimann and Nancy (Chester) Kwiesielewicz, both of Merrill, and Mary (Mick) Magalski of Hortonville; twin sons, Brent (Juleen) and Brian (Elaine), both of Medford; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lionel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the family for future designation.

Hemer Funeral Home of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.
