Lawrence R. Goerg, 93, Colby, died Friday, Dec. 10 at Colonial Center Nursing Home in Colby, where he had resided the past four years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 14 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating, and full military rites performed by the Medford Military Honors Team. Inurnment took place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Pallbearers were Jerry, John and Alan Czeshinski and John Goerg.


Lawrence Goerg was born on July 21, 1917 in Medford to the late John and Kunda (Heier) Goerg. He attended Medford area elementary school and was a graduate of Medford High School.


On December 5, 1943 in Cheyenne, Wyo., he married Evelyn Long, who preceded him in death on February 18, 2008.

He entered the United States Army and served during World War II. After his release in October of 1945, he worked at Mondeaux Lumber Company in Medford, which was later bought by Weather Shield Mfg., where he retired from in 1982.


He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Klossner-Dietzler VFW Post No. 5729 of Medford, Medford Council No. 2301 and Catholic Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, traveling, going on bus tours and going to dinner theater shows.


Survivors include a son, Patrick (Sonya) of De Forest; a brother, Herb (Rita) of Medford, a sister, Luicella Goerg of Medford; a grandson, Timothy (Paula) Goerg of Gilbert, Ariz.; and a great-grandson, Jacob Rykiel of Gilbert.


In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Delmar in June of 2010.
