Gary R. Gaffney, 66, Phillips, died Thursday, July 8 at Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls, where he was a patient that day.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 12 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in the Town of Holway, with Pastor Kris Bjerke-Ulliman officiating. Burial was at Our Saviours Lutheran Church Cemetery in the Town of Holway. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Joyce, "Pete" Peterson and Larry Boushon. Active pallbearers were Jim Janacek, Dick Simonson, Dave Willman, Charlie Reigel, Pete Korpowski and Don Hanson.


Gary Gaffney was born May 28, 1944 in Marshfield to the late Arthur and Doris (Koepke) Gaffney. He attended Marshfield area schools and Marshfield High School.


In 1967 he married Patti Ames and they later divorced.

On February 3, 1990 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, he married Debra Hanson, who survives.

He worked for Kohler Company in Sheboygan and at Marshfield Water & Light. Then he moved to Tulsa, Okla., where he attended welding school and later taught at that school. He returned to Marshfield Water & Light where he worked as a boiler operator until 1990; then he worked at Central Burner & Boiler in Marshfield. He then drove truck for Roehl and Silver Cote, both of Marshfield, then moved to Phillips in 1999 and worked at Weather Shield in Park Falls until his retirement.


He was a member of Musser Lake Association of Phillips and past member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and his grandchildren.


In addition to his wife Debra, survivors include a son, Shawn of Marshfield; a step-son, Joshua Brill of Milwaukee; a brother, Jim of Marshfield; four sisters, Judy (Bob "Pete") Peterson of Sheboygan, Sharon (Larry) Boushon of New Mexico, and Sandy Holroyd and Kathy (Mike) Joyce, both of Marshfield; and two step-grandchildren, Alaina and Ava Brill, both of Spencer.
