John B. Adams, 63, Athens, died Tuesday, Aug. 3. A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday, Aug. 7 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Athens, with Rev. Charles Hiebl officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Athens.


John Adams was born October 5, 1946 in Wausau to Bernard and Armella (Rader) Adams.


On September 21, 1968 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan, he married Linda Bunkelman, who survives.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked highway patrol for the Marathon County Highway Department for over 16 years, farmed in the Town of Halsey, was a welder for the former Hartwig Manufacturing Co. for 10 years and was a grader operator for the Town of Halsey.


He was a member of the American Legion Sawyer-Drum Post No. 393 of Edgar, Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrew J. Sutter Post No. 8527 of Athens, and past member of the Halsey town board. He enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Washington state, spending time with family, mostly his grandchildren, hunting and working on the hunting cabin in the Town of Hamburg.


In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother, Armella Adams of Athens; two children, Bernard "Ben" (Gwen) Adams, Marion and James Adams, Athens; two sisters, Diane (Kenneth) Ligman of Schofield and Judi (Eugene) Hoffman of Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Tyler, Justin, Katlin, Emily and Katy; and one great-grandchild.


He was preceded in death by his father, and one brother-in-law, David Loos.


In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name.
