Lutheran Church, 1876 - 1976, page 56 Ungrodt, Louis Johannes (September 20, 1960) “Sons And Daughters Of The Congregation Who Entered The Teaching Ministry” Louis Ungrodt, son of Pastor and Mrs. Bernard Ungrodt, was born in Pella, South Africa, on September 20, 1860. He immigrated to Jefferson, Wisconsin where his father was a pastor. Louis attended Northwestern College for several years and taught school for a short period of time at Wrightstown, Wisconsin, St. Paul, Minnesota and Racine, Wisconsin and at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran School in Milwaukee for 41 years. He retired from St. John’s School in 1934. An excerpt from Northwestern Lutheran of December 24, 1944 furnished by his son John of Mequon, Wisconsin: “Louis Johannes Ungrodt was born September 20, 1860, at Pella, South Africa, where his father, Reb. Bernard Ungrodt, was stationed as a missionary. His mother Johanna (Schroeder), was of Dutch extraction and the language in the home was Dutch.” “When he was seven years old, the family came to the United States and it was here that Mr. Ungrodt acquired the German language.” |
