“Sons And Daughters Of The Congregation Who Entered The Teaching Ministry”

Wayne Zuleger was born at the Medford Hospital on July 19, 1934 to Frank F. and Olga (Klein) Zuleger of Medford.

Following his elementary education in the Pleasant Heights School, grades 2 to 6, he entered our Christian Day School for grades 7 through 8. Wayne points out that it is noteworth to mention that under the guidance of Waldemar A. Pape, several scholars of the class of 1948 were inspired to enter the teaching ministry.

He took his high school course at Dr. Martin Luther High School in New Ulm, and then entered Dr. Martin Luther College in 1952 and graduated in 1957 with a Bachelors of Science in Education degree.

He was away from college for one year on an emergency assignment to teach at Zion Lutheran School in Rhinelander.

On August 10, 1958, he was married to Miss Elde Schulz of Belle Plaine, Minnesota. Their marriage has been blessed with two children.

Since graduation from Dr. Martin Luther College, he took post graduate work at DMLC, The University of Minnesota, Dominican College and Louisiana State University.

His first call in his teaching ministry was at Shirley, Wisconsin, where he taught all eight grades, directing the choir and played the organ.

In 1960, he accepted a call to First Lutheran Church in Racine to become the first principal in their newly opened school.

From 1963 to 1974, he was called to teach English in St. Croix Lutheran High School in the Twin Cities. In 1974, he accepted a call as professor of English to Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown.

In his closing remarks in his response to our letter, Wayne concludes: “On this 100th Anniversary of Immanuel, I wish to express my thanks for the fine Christian education provided me in those early years by the congregation. At the same time, it is my prayer that Immanuel will never deviate from feeding its lambs and sheep that pure, precious Gospel of Jesus Christ. May the Lord of the Church bless your 100th Anniversary richly.”
