(13 June 1916 – 31 Jan. 2009) Loverna "Verna" B. Thielke, 92, Westboro, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at her home. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at the United Church of Christ, Medford. The Rev. Grant Brown and Rev. Cathy Hinman will officiate. Burial will be in Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Visitations are from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Hemer Funeral Home, where there will be a 6:45 p.m. V.F.W. Auxiliary service and a 7 p.m. O.E.S. service and at the church at 9 a.m. Thursday until time of funeral services. She was born June 13, 1916, at Loverna, Saskatchewan, Canada, to William and Ann (Schlais) Strankman. She married Gordon G. Thielke May 6, 1939, in Medford and he preceded her in death Jan. 13, 2008. From 1961 until her retirement, she worked as a bookkeeper for Klinner Insurance in Medford. She served as the first president of the Klossner-Dietzler V.F.W. Auxiliary in Medford. She is survived by her children Carol (Russell) Roeber of Spokane, Wash., Joan (Donavon) Mitchell of Broadhead, Gordon "Jake" (Diane) Thielke of Medford; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and siblings Norman (Virginia) Strankman of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Irene Moore of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
