Funeral services were conducted by Rev. John Dzarko of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Gilman on Thursday morning, Jan. 20th for Andrew Chaplinski, 32, of Gilman. Mr. Chaplinski died at the hospital in Chippewa Falls on Jan. 17th, 1948 of a fractured skull, the result of an accident while logging west of Ruby early Friday afternoon, Jan. 14th.

A military escort of members of the Thorp and Gilman American Legion Posts accompanied the remains to the grave. Thorp Post Commander R. E. Elkins read the service which was followed by the salute by the firing squad and taps.

Andrew Peter Chaplinski was born in Gilman on Feb. 4, 1916. He was united in marriage in Chicago, Ill., to Amelia Purcel on April 6, 1940.

Surviving him are his wife and three children, one son George of Gilman and two daughters, Carol and Barbara of Gilman; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Chaplinski of Gilman, three brothers, Marlin, Louis and Mike of Gilman; and five sisters, Mrs. Ed Haller, Mrs. O. Schley, Mrs. John Podalak, Mrs. Ed Duffy and Mrs. Henrietta Jarmolak of Gilman.

Interment took place in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Harry Shewczyk, Milton Sromek, Edward and Philip Demaniuk and Frank and John Kondrasuk.

Persons from out of town to attend the funeral were: Joseph Purcel, Joseph Purcell Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Harry Zientch, John Purcel, Helen Purcel, Veronica Wegrzyn, Robbie Preto.
