James "Jim" G. Seidl, 79, Medford, died on Sunday, April 24 at his home, under the care of his family and hospice.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger, Father Dennis Meulemans and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating, and military rites performed by the Medford Military Honors Team.

Burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford. Pallbearers are Lester Hirt, Wally Ertl, Fred Schroeder, Chuck Zenner, Dave Klinner and Mike Marsden.

James Seidl was born on January 1, 1932 in Medford to the late Joseph Frank and Louise Amelia (Frenzel) Seidl. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School.

On May 27, 1959 in Neu-Ulm, Germany, he married Martha Russ, who survives. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, retiring in 1969 after 21 years. He returned to Medford and worked at Ruesch Funeral Home for one year. In 1970, he started working for the Taylor County Highway Department and took over as commissioner in 1974, and served in this position until his retirement in 1991.

During retirement he served on the Taylor County Board and several board committees until the present time.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Klossner-Dietzler VFW of Medford, Landau-Jensen American Legion Post of Medford and Disabled American Veterans. He was active in the planning stages of the new Holy Rosary School. He enjoyed fishing in Canada and bowling.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sisters, Lucille Meyer and Betty Seidl, both of Medford; and two brothers, Richard (Dorothy) of Milwaukee and Thomas of Medford.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph Jr., Jerome, Arthur and Ralph; and a sister, Dorothy Rodehaver.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Holy Rosary Church and School or Taylor County Humane Society.

Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.
