Vern S. Shannon, 60, Medford, died on Saturday, April 16 at his home.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 20 at Community United Church of Christ in Medford, with Pastor Cathy Hinman officiating.

Burial was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Pallbearers were Pat Waskowiak, Steve Schlais, Calvin Kozik, Conrad Kozik, Corwyn Kozik and Kenny Kozik.


Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family of arrangements.

DATE & PLACE OF BIRTH: July 26, 1950 at Medford, WI

EDUCATION: Medford area public schools, and was a 1968 graduate of Medford High School where he was active in Drama Club, President of the Choir and played football.

MARRIAGE INFORMATION: April 4, 1970 at Marshfield to Bonnie Kozik and she survives

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: After his education he moved to Marshfield where he worked at Zimmerman Bros. for a period of time, he also met his wife Bonnie and was married and had four children. The family moved to Stevens Point in 1978 where they stayed for 9 years, during this time he worked and spent time with his family. He started his own business in 1984 doing remodeling and small construction. In 1987 the family returned to the Medford area were he worked at Conseco, and most recently Blount Mfg./now Caterpillar, Inc. in Prentice until ill health recently forced him to stay home. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shooting, 4-wheeling, watching movies and spending time with family and friends.

MEMBER OF: Community United Church of Christ, Medford; He was on the Caterpillar, Inc. Safety Team at his work

SURVIVING SPOUSE: Bonnie J. Shannon of Medford

SURVIVING CHILDREN: Kelly (Craig) Lang of Wausau, Jennifer (Bryan) Thums of Rib Lake, Steve (Cindy) Shannon of Marathon, Connie Kestler of Medford

NUMBER OF GRANDCHILDREN: 9

SURVIVING BROTHERS/SISTERS: Randy (Joan Norbut) Shannon of Medford, Danny (Joyce) Shannon of Medford & Pamela Shannon of Medford

SURVIVING PARENTS: Joyce P. (LaCoursiere) Shannon of Medford

DECEASED FATHER: Eldon E. Shannon, Jr. in 1986

PALLBEARERS: Pat Waskowiak, Steve Schlais, Calvin Kozik, Conrad Kozik, Corwyn Kozik, Kenny Kozik

OTHER INFORMATION: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the family for a future designation.
