Lucille E. Olson, age 82, of Appleton, passed away at Appleton Medical Center on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 with her family at her side.


Lucille was born on July 8, 1928 in Greenwood to the late William and Clara (Haider) Thums.

She married Norman Olson on August 21, 1948 in Rib Lake. Lucille was well-known as a skilled crocheter, enjoyed trips up north and was a member of the Happy Hopper Club.


Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Norman; her children, Shirley (Glenn) Nikkila of Medford, Sandra Olson of Walworth, Sharon (Steven) Havel of Appleton, and Jerome Olson of Shiocton; her grandchildren, Coreen (Virgil) Wilcox, Jeffery Nikkila, Jason (special friend Sonia Wiesner) Havel, Matthew (Janna) Havel, Jenny Olson and Beth Olson; her great-grandchildren, Jessica Campbell and Samantha (Campbell), Erica Nikkila, and Nathan Janssen; her brothers and sisters, Earl (Vi) Thums, William (Diane) Thums Jr., Henry (Donna) Thums, Dennis (Cheryl) Thums, Bruce (Donna) Thums, Armella (Don) Berger, Virginia Birch, Rosella (Jerry) Dvorak and Vicky (Roger) Oats; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Thums. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Lucille was preceded in death by her son, Gerald; her brothers, Edward and Dale; and her sisters, Kathleen, Lorren, Clara and Caroline.


Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 4 at Wichmann Funeral Home in Appleton, with Deacon Craig Merrick officiating. Entombment was at Highland Memorial Park.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staffs at Rennes Health and Rehabilitation Center, Appleton Medical Center and the Appleton Health Center for their loving care.
