Debra "Debbie" Jean (Herrick) Schindler, 57, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at her home in Bloomer, after a long battle with a lung disease.


She was born on August 8, 1953 in Appleton to Donovan and Rita (Ahlers) Herrick.

 

She lived with her mother and step-father, Martin Kraft, and graduated from Gilman High School in 1971. After high school, she joined the United States Army with the 279th hospital station and was stationed in Berlin, Germany, until she was honorably discharged in 1975.

 

Debbie married Glen W. Schindler on August 22, 1980 in Chippewa Falls. She worked outside the home for many years in different departments at the Bloomer Hospital until deciding to spend time at home with family as a homemaker.


Debbie had many loves in her life including her cats, Cali, Mollie and Gizmo. She also had a love for horses and enjoyed riding them throughout her life. She spent her time reading, spending time with her grandkids and talking with friends and family. She was a devoted and loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Everyone that knew her will remember her as a caring, generous and thoughtful person that always had interesting and detailed stories to tell from the past and present. She will be greatly missed by many. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomer.


She is survived by her husband, Glen, of Bloomer; four daughters, Jennifer Shortess of Bloomer, Christine (Chad Knorn) Schindler of Chippewa Falls, Andrea (Chris Turner) Schindler of Bloomer and Melissa Robinson of Virginia; three sons, Michael (Cassandra Michels) Schindler of Bloomer, Jeff Schindler of Bloomer and Eric (Dietra) Robinson of Virginia; eight grandchildren, Chenoa and Traeton Shortess, Nicholas, Erica, Camren, DeJeron, Brianna and Jasiah Robinson; a sister, Lana (Don) Meyer of Holcombe; parents-in-law, William and Rose Schindler of Bloomer; brothers-in-law, Dale Johnson, Chuck (Francie) Schindler of Colfax, Richard (Virginia) Schindler of Bloomer and Bill Schindler of Bloomer; a sister-in-law, Rita (Steve) Nunweiler of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is also survived by a very special friend, Leah Schindler.


She is preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; her step-father; two sisters, Victoria Bloom and Patricia Johnson; friends; and special feline companion, her cat Gooney.


A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, June 13 at St. John's Catholic Church, with Father James Arthur officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Bloomer American Legion and VFW.
