Former Town of Greenwood resident Duscan "Duke" Budimlija, 87, Medford, died on Tuesday, July 12 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Town of Greenwood, with Rev. Joseph M. Dietrich officiating, and military honors conducted by the Lehman-Clendenning American Legion Post No. 274 of Rib Lake.

Interment will be held at Lakeview Cemetery at a later date. Honorary pallbearers are Ryan Budimlija, Heidi Radtke, Justin Budimlija, Jennifer Peterson, Brad Budimlija, Nicole Lukewich, Tyler Budimlija and Joshua Budimlija.


Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.


Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.


Duscan Budimlija was born on April 8, 1924 on the family homestead in the Town of Greenwood to the late Milvon and Lenora (Pample) Budimlija.

He attended Rib River Graded School. After grade school, he worked on the family farm until being drafted into the United States Army in 1942 and served during World War II. After the service, he worked at a meat plant in Minneapolis, Minn.


On September 27, 1947 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, he married Iline B. Zuther, who survives.

He was employed by Schlitz Brewery in Milwaukee, hauled milk for Ray Schirmer, as a cutter at Gem Products from 1955 until 1993, at Mondeaux Campground as a green thumb, and later drove truck for Black River Industries until he retired in 2002.


He was a member and past board member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, past board member of Lakewood Credit Union, and past member of Gem Products bowling team. He enjoyed working in the woods.


In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Dennis (Judith) of the Town of Rib Lake, Dan (Margaret) of Mosinee and Gary (Vonnie) of Medford; a brother, Jack (Pat) of Appleton; a sister, Inez Brost of Medford; a sister-in-law, Donna Sauer of Rib Lake; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Peterson of Rib Lake, Brad (fiancée Heidi Fredrickson) Budimlija of Ogema, Ryan (Katie) Budimlija of Mosinee, Heidi (Justin) Radtke of Rosholt, Justin Budimlija of Knowlton and Nicole (Jesse) Lukewich, Tyler (Shannon) Budimlija and Joshua Budimlija, all of Medford; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Milvon; and a sister, Elaine (Mike) Bylina.
