Frank J. Brehl, 99, Medford, died on Sunday, Aug. 7 at Luther Manor Nursing Home in Wauwatosa, where he had resided the past two weeks.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville, with Father Sleeva Raju Madanu officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Stetsonville, with graveside military rites performed by the Stetsonville American Legion. Pallbearers will be Donald, Sean and Kevin Horkheimer, Anthony Traxler and Michael and Daniel Zepp.


Hemer Funeral Home of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.


Frank Brehl was born on December 25, 1911 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to the late John and Rosalia (Kockovsky) Brehl.

He attended Town of Little Black elementary schools. He worked on the family farm in the Town of Little Black, then entered the United States Army and served during World War II.

After the service, he returned to the Town of Little Black where he farmed until his retirement.


He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed his dog, Bruno, reading, hunting and doing machinery work.


Survivors include two nephews, Robert (Kathy) Horkheimer of Milwaukee and Ronald (Maureen) Horkheimer of Brookfield; a niece, Patricia (Dr. Anthony) Traxler of Edwardsville, Ill.; and 12 grandnieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert in 1988; a sister, Wilma Horkheimer in 2004; and a grandnephew, Daniel Horkheimer, in 2007.
