Ella Nora Pohle, 92, Medford, died on Friday, Aug. 26 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford, while under hospice care. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Medford, with Rev. James Krueger officiating. Interment was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Pallbearers were Joshua Gruny, Jesse Gruny, Nathan Pohle, Brett Eiken, Richard Kestler and James Hoffman.


Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.


The former Ella Engel was born on November 28, 1918 in Butternut to the late Henry and Anna (Christian) Engel. She attended grade school in the Butternut School District and was a 1936 graduate of Butternut High School.

After graduating, she was employed by Pike Lake Fox Ranch and the Whitefish Bay Resort before she moved to Milwaukee with her sisters during World War II. She then worked at the American Lace Paper Company and a leather glove company until 1948. She moved back to Park Falls where she worked at Hoefferle's Dance Hall and Bar, and also cared for her niece.


On April 15, 1950 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, she married Clarence Joseph Pohle, who preceded her in death in 1996. They lived in Medford where she was employed in housekeeping at the Medford Clinic, Hospital and Nursing Home, and also as an in-store product promoter at Copp's IGA, County Market and Kmart.


She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church and it’s Ladies Aide, and the Happy Americans. She enjoyed shooting pool and playing cards at the Medford Senior Center where she managed the card games and also volunteered until 2002, knitting, going on picnics, fishing, flowers and gardening, baking, her dogs, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.


Survivors include a step-son, Robert (Kathy) Pohle of Mukwonago; a daughter, Marlene (David) Gruny of Medford; a son, Dennis (Penny) of Beaver Dam; three brothers, Walter (Marge) of Winchester, Ervin (Alice) of Park Falls and Donald (Roberta) of Fort Atkinson; three sisters, Laura Thimm of Glidden, and Viola Wenninger and Louise (Leonard) Hoefferle, both of Park Falls; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother; a sister, Ruth (Art) Richter; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Wenninger and Armond Thimm.


Memorials in her honor may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hope Hospice or the American Diabetes Association.
