Obit: Bruegl, Gordon Joseph (1922 - 2011) Contact: Robert Lipprandt E-mail: rloss@bellsouth.netSurnames: Bradley, Bruegl, Cullen, Kuenne, Layton, Lorbeski, Oostermeyer, Papes, Powell ----Source: The Star News (Medford, Taylor Co., Wisconsin) Thursday, October 20, 2011, online edition ---- Bruegl, Gordon Joseph (February 18, 1922 - October 15, 2011) Gordon Joseph Bruegl, age 89, Anderson, S.C., died on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Rainey Hospice House.
He was a 1942 graduate of Medford High School and was inducted into the United States Army in December of 1942. Following his honorable discharge in Frankfurt, West Germany, he accepted federal employment there and in 1948 joined the U.S. Foreign Service. While residing in Frankfurt, he met his beloved late wife, Olga (Oostermeyer) Bruegl, a Belgian national who worked for the U.S. Army. Together they served at the following U.S. embassies: Bonn, West Germany, Budapest, London, Tehran, Saigon, Geneva and Bangkok. Mr. Bruegl commented many times, "it has been a wonderful, exciting, challenging, rewarding and sometimes a dangerous life, in the Foreign Service. My twenty plus years of retirement in Anderson was a just reward." Mr. Bruegl was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson.
