Chase A. Ried, 15, Medford, died on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at his home.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating. Cremainal inurnment will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford at a later date. Honorary pallbearers are Alyssa Willner, Blaz Newberry, Kyle Hemple and Connor Keefe.


Visitation will be held at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford on Friday, Oct. 21 from 4 to 7 p.m., with a 6:45 p.m. rosary service, and on Saturday from 9 to 10:45 a.m.


Chase Ried was born on July 3, 1996 in Medford. He was currently a sophomore at Medford Area Senior High School, where he loved going, riding bike and seeing all of his friends. He lived with his grandparents, Robert and Donna Kalmon. Chase loved life, loved people, loved Father Gerard and Deacon Joe, his family and his dog, Winnie. He was a very spiritual young man. He was a big Packers fan, especially Brett Favre, enjoyed going bumming, riding 4-wheeler, hayrides, tractor rides, camping, walking through the leaves during the fall, Harry Potter series, going for bike rides with Grandma and Grandpa, and parties. He enjoyed the water, especially swimming. He loved being able to swim with the Dolphins this past January in Florida through the Make A Wish foundation.


He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Brayden Alexander Hydranen-Cephaly Foundation.


Survivors include his mother, Crystal (Skip) Swanson of Medford; father, Dan (Angie) Ried; three siblings, Destiny L. Matthias, and Andrew A. and Rhiannan I. Swanson, all of Medford; maternal grandparents, Bob (Donna) Kalmon of Medford; paternal grandparents, Art (Cathy) Ried of Medford and Kayleen (Kestler); maternal great-grandfather, Claire C. Kalmon of Medford; aunts and uncles; cousins; and other relatives and many friends.


He was preceded in death by a brother, John Swanson, in infancy; maternal great-grandmother, Carol Kalmon; maternal grandparents, Les and Chizuko Rifenburg; aunt, Jennifer I. Kalmon; and cousin, Isabelle I. Kalmon Mabie.


In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to his family to be designated at a later date.
